Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a rearing black horse on and above a gold wheel, the hub and spokes surmounted by a brick red cross, all above a scarlet scroll bearing the inscription "SET THE PACE" in gold letters, the ends of the scroll touching the horse.

Symbolism
Brick red and gold are the colors used for Transportation. The black horse and the cross refer to the arms of the Province of Naples and the city of Rome, localities where the organization served in World War II. The wheel symbolizes the earliest method of transportation and the basic mission of the Battalion.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 8 February 1968.
